7:42 pm - The Show that Never Ends
|
|
Well howdy doody everyone! I've not posted for a while because, lets face it, Im lazy. :P However, I got my first Christmas card today which include a nudge to poke my head above the parapet once more. :-)
Life is generally pretty bloody good at the moment so I wont even complain about the predictable start-of winter cold I am just finishing up with.
One more week of term after this then a lovely holiday for a few weeks. The great thing about having most of ones friends as student or teachers is we all get holiday at the same time. Off to a Kentwellie reunion this weekend and Harriet is coming to visit next week too. Hurrah! Should also see Amanda if she can get away from whatever war-zone she is currently in.
College is going well and although I am not excelling (apart from the academic bits) I am clearly improving in both confidence and ability. Im suffering from the enevitable 'its cold outside which means I dont have to do any work' frame of mind and anyway, I have 15 episodes of Rome to watch - that counts as work doesnt it?
oh well, wednesday night- house full of monkeys - id better go order some food...
Love you all
Dave

1:01 am - Rainy Sunday Afternoons
|
A very pleasant day spent muchly in Canterbury with Simon and Michelle, Jules and Fiona, guydebec and le_rosbifGenerally just walking about in the rain, drinking tea and catching up on gossip. Visited Canterbury castle followed by a good roast dinner at weatherspoons. yummy.
Had a good long chat to frankthebarmaid , who is now back in the country, albeit temporarily, and started planning the next phase of our scheme to take over the world. Also had an entertaining (but surreal) chat with Bethan (another Kentwellie) Managed to pencil in a few diary dates to go off to have adventures and stuff. My car is booked in tomorrow so I will hopefully be reliably mobile again by the weekend.
Speaking of surreal, I had a phone call earlier in the day which I duly answered, then giggled a bit. "Who was that?" my companions said. "My ex-girlfriend" I replied. "What did she want?" ."oh she just wanted to know if I knew what things you need to kill a greater demon.."
I love being me :-)
I feel strangely accomplished today, though I have done very little.
Happy birthday to Roger ( le_rosbif) for tomorrow, and welcome back to civilisation to giniefrench . hmmm, I see an impending curry in our futures..

I've been good.
I've tidied up my house, hoovered all the carpets and cleaned the floors, had a clothes purge and rid myself of four bin bags of unwanted stuff. The garden is immaculate and all the washing is done. I've opened and processed about fifty bits of mail, and heightened the degree of order of my environment.
I am excited.
I've examined a number of likely future scenarios and figured suitable plays and responses.
Now to increase the chaos and see what happens.
It's going to be a good week.

Greetings one and all!
I have returned from my wanderings in Suffolk where for 3 weeks I have been having an *awesome* time being a tudor gentleman, dancing with beautiful ladies, eating a banquet every day, having servants and promenading in my finery with my new family.
*sigh* my life is sooo hard. :-P
Its very difficult to explain the magic of it all without experiencing it, but thanks to all who helped make it so wonderful this year.
Here is a fairly big selection of photos taken at Kentwell for any who are interested...

In other news, I passed my course, so I can technically add being a qualified musician to my list of odd skills. I will be going back next year to do a whole bunch more. The end of term gig at Broadstairs was spectacular. 180 odd crowd plus people walking by. The girls from the Performing Arts course were fantastic - they made banners and t-shirts with our names on and screamed a lot.
See some of you in Bristol this weekend!
hugs xxx

LARp was great fun at the weekend. A pleasant time in beautiful tranquil woods marred only by the impending cannibal holocaust and soul-eating fiends. I had a particularly good time when I wandered in the woods and found a trail of pretty gems, so I picked them all up. Only later did I find that possessing just one of them made you succumb to urges of contrariness. ( I had about 20 of em...oops!) So Daerin the affable elven scholar became Daerin the power-hungry violent psychopath. I was particularly pleased about escaping from a surrounded command tent after being knocked out, handcuffed and made to wear armour to prevent spellcasting. After a few hours of fun and games it all turned out well in the end and normality was restored.
I really enjoyed taking part in a couple of splendid rituals. As usual the Jhereg ritual teams provided fantastic bits of drama and I was proud to be part of them and chuffed to receive compliments on my roles.
A superb weekend. Great company and good adventure. Thanks to all of you who were there, you fine, fine people.
See you at Fayre.

Twas a wonderful day. :-) The BBQ at my house turned out very well. It was really good to see so many people there. I get a special high from looking round and thinking -"sweet, I know all these people and they all look kinda happy". The people there from various friend groups seemed to mix pretty well - young and old, family, friends, larpers, reenactors, teachers, students, neighbours, random weirdies.
Culinary skills courtesy of 'nosh' ( guydebec). A yummy mars-bar cake made by amabat (I hid an extra piece to enjoy later). giniefrench brought wine from france, lurkinggherkin brought treats from Korea. darkspiral_ents brought a mixing desk and sound system. (niiice)
Lots of huggage from lovely people, a possible new housemate, scrummy cocktails (I am *soo* sophisticated!), a big sword fight - all good points.
Thanks for coming guys and gals, sorry to those who couldnt make it, and particular comiserations to Sarah whose car broke down on the way and she never made it.
photos to follow sometime.

12:20 am - Yo ho, yo ho, a pirates life for me.
|
Interesting day today. Hardly anyone at college as its 'study week' <ahem>. Plotted with my music teacher and one of the girls in the year above to form a folky-type band and go busking for a laugh. We need some good piratical type songs I think.
My mother came over today to do some gardening. She loves to garden and I could never get into it, so I made her tea and played guitar at her while she planted lots of pretty things.
Just watched 'Pirates of the Carribean' again, cos, well, it rocks.
Looking forward to BBQ party on Sunday. The weather should be good for it, by all accounts.

1:03 pm - Take me to the river
|
|
Had a wonderful weekend in Norfolk doing the Fairy Fayre in the charming grounds of Narborough Hall. The crew had increased from 80 to 180 this year so it was a much bigger party. riculf and I turned up early and spent much of the first evening extracting cars from the mud, but as it dried out there was lots of singing silly songs around the campfire in the evening, covered in random kids demanding stories of pirates. We got to see lots of old fairy friends and make some new ones, from the precocious 6- year olds though all the hippy types to the old storytellers and musicians. Rollo was in his element and stole all of my well-earned attention again.
Apparently over 6000 people came to the fair over two days. The weather was fine with a few showers (one of hail!) Being trolls went down well as usual, and we got some extra helpers this time. We did a 'cooking for trolls' stand-up show with us dressed in chefs hats and pinafores making lovely dishes out of mud, sawdust, leaves, earwax and bogies. After suitably grossing out the kids and adults it all turned into a very messy mud pie fight, with lots of audience participation. As we were disgusting and wet after that anyway we both went into the river to disrupt the fairt float race. We (of course) cheated and launched our troll battleship (an old bath tub with Gary in it) and were easily winning up until a giant frog jumped out and made us capsize. Curses! -foiled again!!! We then had a water fight with the mermaids at the finish line. It was awesome just showing off in front of hundreds of people, especially being boo-d for being such baddies. After a shower and a lovely swim with the mermaids in the owners private outdoor swimming pool, we became human again and it was time to be pirates- helping in my brother's pirate pantomime. He's a really good performer and fit us in perfectly into his bloodthirsty show that has as much fun for adults as children in.
Had a look around all the fantastic exhibits - craft stalls, fairy trails, wishing tree etc etc. Saw lots of things that would make some of you go "squee!". Two sweet little kids made us presents of little trolls standing on gemstones. aaaah. Also got given an example of the excellent bug jewellry made by hailshimmer. who it was great to catch up with. We finished up with a parade of the great 20' long dragon that had been making all weekend. At the end of the show it gets ceremonially burned, to arise again when it is remade somewhere else, by more children.
All in all a fantastic and magical weekend. And very tiring.
People keep asking me how they can get involved in this. Well heres the website: http://www.fairylandtrust.org/home.html The people are so nice its untrue, and need all the help they can get.

Fun Happening #2 If you are bored in Norfolk this weekend..
This years Fairy Fayre:
When : Sunday 28th May and Monday 29th May 2006 from 10am –5.30pm (last entry 5pm)
Where: Narborough Hall off A47 between Swaffham and Kings Lynn, Norfolk PE32 1TE
Admission: Adults £3 Children £2 (3yrs - 16yrs) Family ticket £10 (2 adults 3 children max) Tickets cannot be booked in advance
What’s it all about: The Fairy Fair is a magical day out for the whole family set in the beautiful grounds of Narborough Hall. Most workshops are aimed at 3- 8 year olds but older children and adults enjoy them too. Lots of people come in fancy dress. It’s like an enchanted fete or as one visitor said an organic Disneyland! Most of the activities and all the workshops and performances are under canvas so don’t mind the English weather.

1:24 am - Dream a little dream of me
|
Went into college today in my suit and generally confused people :P (Messing with peoples expectations pleases me. Does that make me bad?)
From there went straight to St Georges school for some exam invigilation. Had a class of 28 to deal with on my own, which was no problem except for two little scroats who refused to behave appropriately and ended up being reported for disruption.
Sometimes I want to be able to do that thing in 'Run Lola Run' whereby you get a fastforward of snapshots from a persons life, just to find out what happens to them in the future. I would have used it on those two kids, just to see if my guesses were right.
Re-watched 'Man on the moon' last night, (Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufmann) a good film with some sharp observations in it on the nature of humour. Also saw 'The Commitments' which I always approve of.
Went to sleep for a couple of hours when I got home (late night last night) and had strange but vivid dreams featuring civil war soldiers and two very interesting ladies who were kinda the same person, but not.
Off to Canterbury tomorrow night to be sociable. See some of ya there :)

11:48 am - Blossom in the tree
|
Nobody seems to post much at the weekend. Thats because you all do it at work, dont you? You bad, bad people - wasting precious company resources *tsk*
Nice weekend bimbling around town/beach with Gary, talking philosophy and stuff.
Stood on the boardwalk and watched the moonpath over a still sea to a full moon, while the twinkling lights of the ferries came on in. *sigh* would have been romantic if the company had been a sweet sensitive girl rather than a squat bearded man :P
Went to Rainies on friday night and danced around in my own special way. Got random hugs and kisses, (but not in a fulfilling way).
Have been singing all weekend and grooving round the house. I have been elected to sing 'Im feeling fine' (Muse version) which is a neat song but a little problematic atm.
Worked on bits of troll humour, re-strung my electric guitar and played a fair bit too.
My garden is looking magical. Lots of flowers and bright things growing everywhere (courtesy of my mum) and my cool apple tree in pinky white blossom. It definately needs a sleeping girl in a white dress on a blanket to complete the scene.
Hmm blossom always reminds me of the final scenes of 'Excalibur' rarrr:)

Went to Cressing Temple re-enactors market yestrerday with aussiedave and Mrs Moore. Twas a very pleasant day despite the rain. We went out for a very nice meal and general gossip after, which was fun. Saw Dave and Tams wedding photos. ahh. I definitely need some more romance in my life.
I was pleased and encouraged by the amount of people I met at Cressing that I knew from various sources. Huggage and gossip was in abundance. I bought a copy of 'The Tudor Tailor' and some dyed ostrich feathers for my new hat, but no suitable rapiers were found.
